Resuspension Potential Method(RPM)
To determine how dirty water mains are RPM testing is increasingly being used. Pre and post RPM testing is used by many water authorities as part of the air scouring projects. Pre testing indicates how dirty the mains are and post testing indicates the effectiveness of the air scouring projects.
What is RPM Testing?
RPM testing is measuring the capacity of the sediment in a network to resuspend as a result of a controlled, normalised and moderate increase of the velocity in a pipe.
The results obtained from RPM testing can be used to determine the effectiveness of the cleaning of water mains and the frequency needed for each zone.
TheĀ R.P.M testing machine is connected to a hydrant. The machine sets the required flow and records the turbidity in the water.
